Sony is kicking off June’s gaming showcase season with a new PlayStation State of Play, and this one looks bigger than the usual quick update drop.
The livestream is scheduled for June 2 at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET, which means Malaysian fans will need to set an early alarm: that converts to June 3 at 5 AM MYT. Painful timing, yes, but kalau you’re the type who watches reveals live with Discord open, this is one of those mornings that might be worth the kopi.
The headline attraction is a fresh look at Marvel’s Wolverine, the upcoming PlayStation console-exclusive from Insomniac Games. Sony is positioning it right at the start of the show, which strongly suggests this is not just a tiny teaser. The State of Play will run for around 60 minutes, making it one of Sony’s larger presentations of the year.
Besides Wolverine, Sony says viewers can expect updates, announcements, and gameplay reveals from studios around the world. That wording is broad, but useful: it means this probably will not be a single-game-focused stream. Expect a mix of first-party PlayStation projects, third-party trailers, and maybe a few release date confirmations.
For Malaysia and SEA players, the big question is simple: what does this mean for PS5 owners who are trying to decide what to buy next? PlayStation games are not cheap here, especially when new releases can easily sit around the RM200-RM300+ range depending on edition and platform pricing. A proper Wolverine gameplay reveal would help players judge whether this is a day-one purchase, a wait-for-sale title, or just one to follow from afar.
June is also looking stacked for gaming events in general. Sony’s own lineup still has several games fans are waiting to hear more about. GameSpot notes that projects like Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and FairGame$ have not been shown much recently. There is also the Horizon universe expansion with Horizon Hunters Gathering. Whether any of these appear is not confirmed, but a 60-minute showcase gives Sony enough room to bring out at least a few surprises.
Another possible candidate is Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, Arc System Works’ next fighting game, which has an August 6 release date approaching. For fighting game fans in SEA, that would be especially interesting because ArcSys titles usually develop strong community pockets here, even if they are more niche compared to Tekken or Street Fighter.
