About

Overview

Final Fantasy Resonance is a 2026 role-playing video game co-developed by Square Enix and Lancarse and published by Square Enix. It adapts Lapis, the first story arc of the 2015 mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. Resonance is the first game in the Final Fantasy series to use HD-2D, bringing that story arc to consoles and Windows.

Gameplay

Resonance uses traditional turn-based combat rather than the ATB system featured in previous Final Fantasy installments. Battles include a stun meter: filling it allows enemies to be stunned, followed by special and combination attacks.

Players can also summon Visions during battles to gain additional abilities. These Visions are ghosts of iconic characters from across the Final Fantasy series. Cloud from Final Fantasy VII is one example, granting enhanced physical attacks and lightning magic when summoned.

Another character from Final Fantasy VII, its villain Sephiroth, appears as a super-boss. His appearance accompanies the game's use of returning Final Fantasy characters through its Visions mechanic.

Setting

The story follows Rain, Lasswell, and Fina as they set out to protect the remaining crystals around the world. Their journey begins after Veritas of the Dark destroys the Earth Crystal.

Rain is voiced by Clifford Chapin in English and Nobuhiko Okamoto in Japanese. Lasswell is voiced by Alejandro Saab and Yusuke Kobayashi, while Fina is voiced by Lizzie Freeman and Akane Fujita, respectively.

Release

Final Fantasy Resonance was released on 22 October 2026 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. Square Enix published the game across these platforms.

A demo was released ahead of the full game on 3 September 2026. It covers the opening portion of the game through the end of chapter one.
