About

Overview

Marvel's Wolverine is a 2026 action-adventure game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Based on the Marvel Comics character Wolverine, it draws on long-running comic book mythology and adaptations in other media.

The game is a standalone entry in the Marvel's Spider-Man series. It tells an original, self-contained story that shares continuity with Insomniac's other Marvel games.

Development discussions began during Marvel's Spider-Man (2018), when Insomniac Games, Marvel Games, and Sony Interactive Entertainment discussed future Marvel games beyond Spider-Man. Insomniac expressed interest in adapting Wolverine, and the project was announced in September 2021 with creative director Brian Horton, game director Cameron Christian, and writers Walt Williams and Mary Kenney attached.

Gameplay

Marvel's Wolverine is described as an action-adventure game. It centers on Wolverine, the Marvel Comics mutant also known as Logan, within an original story connected to Insomniac's Marvel continuity.

Setting

The opening premise follows Wolverine as an amnesiac mutant who rejoins his former unit, Team X. He investigates the abduction of displaced mutants by industrialist Bolivar Trask and the Reavers militia while searching for answers about his own past.

The setup is built around Logan's personal mystery, his former team, and a mutant-focused conflict rather than a retelling of an existing comic storyline.

Release

Marvel's Wolverine was released worldwide for the PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026. It was developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

The game was announced in September 2021 during the PlayStation Showcase alongside Marvel's Spider-Man 2. In December 2023, it was among the major subjects of a targeted ransomware attack on Insomniac Games, where development assets showing gameplay and story elements briefly became public. By October 2024, Marcus Smith and Mike Daly had replaced Horton and Christian in their respective creative director and game director roles.
