World of Warcraft: Forever
About
Overview
World of Warcraft: Forever is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. Built around World of Warcraft’s original 2004 setting and gameplay, it introduces additional content and storylines rather than recreating the original game unchanged.
Forever forms a separate branch of World of Warcraft, operating alongside the modern game and World of Warcraft: Classic. Its development drew on the team’s experience with Classic and experiments such as World of Warcraft: Season of Discovery. Blizzard began pursuing it as a full project around 2024.
Gameplay
Forever retains a level cap of 60. Instead of raising that cap through conventional expansions, its progression focuses on new activities, stories, abilities, equipment, and other systems within the original level range.
The game adds three zones and substantially expands or changes several existing areas. Blizzard also plans more than 1,000 additional quests, nine dungeons, and two raids. These additions explore parts of Azeroth left undeveloped in the original game, including stories occurring alongside its original storyline.
Skyborne Elves join the game as a new playable race. Additional race-class combinations include Forsaken Paladins and Dwarf Shamans, neither of which was available in the original version of World of Warcraft.
Setting
Forever takes place during the first year of World of Warcraft in a continuity separate from the modern game. The original version of Azeroth provides its foundation, with new areas and stories expanding that world. Rather than following the main game’s expansion timeline, Forever is designed as a permanent branch focused on the original setting.
Release
World of Warcraft: Forever was released on November 4, 2026, for Windows and macOS. Blizzard announced the game at BlizzCon on September 12, 2026, and its beta began on September 17.
