Fortnite Weapon Tier List

Choosing the right weapons can mean the difference between a Victory Royale and an early return to the lobby. This tier list ranks every weapon currently in the Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2 loot pool based on damage output, versatility, ease of use, and overall effectiveness across different skill levels. Whether you are a casual player looking for reliable picks or a competitive grinder optimizing your loadout, this guide will help you prioritize what to carry and what to leave on the ground.

The current meta favors mid-range precision and burst damage, with DMRs and burst-fire weapons dominating the S tier. Shotguns remain essential for close-quarters combat, but the gap between the best and worst options in that category is wider than ever. Pistols continue to occupy the bottom of the tier list, useful only as early-game placeholders until you find something better.

Methodology and Current Meta

Our rankings are based on a combination of factors: raw damage per second, effective range, accuracy (both hipfire and ADS), availability in the loot pool, and performance across different game modes including Build, Zero Build, and Ranked. We also factor in how each weapon performs at varying skill levels — a weapon that dominates in the hands of a pro but is unusable for average players gets weighted differently than one that performs consistently for everyone.

The Chapter 6 Season 2 meta has shifted toward a more aim-focused playstyle. The introduction of the Thermal DMR and the return of the Huntress DMR have made long-range engagements more rewarding than in previous seasons. Simultaneously, the Thunder Burst SMG has emerged as a close-to-mid-range powerhouse that can shred builds and players alike. This combination has created a meta where players who can hit their shots at multiple ranges are heavily rewarded.

Building-focused players will find that the Hammer Pump Shotgun pairs perfectly with aggressive edit plays, while Zero Build players may prefer the Gatekeeper Shotgun for its more forgiving spread pattern. The assault rifle category is well-balanced, with the Ranger AR serving as a reliable workhorse and the Mythic AR being the undisputed best gun in the game if you can secure one from a boss POI.

Weapon Category Breakdown

S Tier — Meta-Defining Picks

The Mythic AR sits at the absolute top of this list. Obtainable only from defeating boss NPCs at specific POIs, this weapon offers pinpoint accuracy, high damage, and a fire rate that melts opponents before they can react. The Thermal DMR earns its S-tier placement through its unique thermal scope, which highlights enemies through smoke, foliage, and even partially through builds, making it an unparalleled information-gathering tool on top of its solid damage output. The Huntress DMR rewards precise aim with devastating headshot multipliers and clean, predictable bullet travel. The Thunder Burst SMG rounds out S tier as the best close-range option in the game — its three-round burst can eliminate a full-health opponent in two bursts if you land your shots.

A Tier — Excellent Choices

The Ranger AR is the most consistent weapon in the game. It does everything well: good damage, manageable recoil, and effective at short-to-mid range. It is the gun you are happy to carry from your first chest to the final circle. The Striker Burst Rifle offers higher burst damage than the Ranger but requires better trigger discipline and aim to use effectively, making it a skill-rewarding alternative. The Hammer Pump Shotgun is the definitive close-range weapon for build-mode players, delivering massive damage on well-timed shots and pairing beautifully with edit plays.

B Tier — Situationally Strong

The Gatekeeper Shotgun is more forgiving than the Hammer Pump thanks to its wider spread and faster fire rate, but it sacrifices peak damage potential. It shines in Zero Build where you cannot create your own close-range engagement windows. The Blink Mag SMG is a fun and unique weapon that teleports you forward when you reload, adding a mobility component to your fights. Damage-wise it is slightly below the Thunder Burst, but the utility factor keeps it relevant.

C Tier — Early Game Only

The Revolver and Flint-Knock Pistol both suffer from the same fundamental problem: slow fire rates and high-risk, high-reward damage profiles in a meta that favors consistent output. The Revolver can deal respectable damage per shot but loses every fight against any automatic weapon at similar range. The Flint-Knock Pistol has niche utility for its knockback effect, which can be used for mobility or pushing enemies off high ground, but as a primary weapon it is outclassed by everything above it. Drop these as soon as you find a chest with anything better.
