Final Fantasy XIV Locks In Switch 2 Release Date for August

Square Enix has finally put a proper date on Final Fantasy XIV for Nintendo Switch 2: the MMORPG launches on August 4, 2026.

The announcement came during the Final Fantasy XIV 2026 Berlin Fan Festival, where Square Enix also confirmed that pre-orders are already live on the Switch 2 eShop. For players in Malaysia and SEA who have been waiting for a more couch-friendly or portable way to jump into Eorzea, this is a pretty big deal. FFXIV has always been strong on PC and PlayStation, but Switch 2 support could make casual grinding, daily roulettes and story catch-up way easier.

A free trial will also be available. Paid editions still use FFXIV's normal subscription model; the official announcement does not describe a blanket subscription-free launch month. Nintendo Switch Online is not required, but existing players still need a Switch 2 licence to use this version.

Three Switch 2 Editions Are Coming

The Switch 2 listing includes the Starter Edition, Complete Edition, Complete Collector's Edition, Dawntrail and Dawntrail Collector's Edition. Square Enix's North America/Singapore/Hong Kong notice advertises a 30% launch discount for the two Complete editions through August 12, 2026 at 7:59 a.m. PDT.

For Malaysian players, the important thing is to check the local eShop listing before buying. Prices, sale cut-offs and account-region rules can differ, so this article does not convert the US price into an asserted Malaysian retail price.

What Comes in the Collector’s Edition?

The Switch 2 Complete Collector’s Edition bundles a long list of fan-service items, including mounts, minions, weapons and cosmetics from previous Collector’s Editions.

Highlights include the Fat Chocobo Mount, Coeurl Mount, Flying Griffin Mount, Syldra Mount, Grani Mount, Arion Mount and Ark Mount. Minions include Baby Behemoth, Wind-up Moogle, Wind-up Kain, Wind-up Bartz, Wind-up Fran, Wind-up Porom and Wind-up Garnet. There are also themed weapons and gear like the Chicken Knife, Revolver Gunbreaker Weapon, Death Scythe, Chocobo Brush, Helm of Light and Dark Knight Cecil-themed Baron Helm.

Basically, this edition is for the player who already knows they are going deep into FFXIV and wants all the cosmetic flex from day one. If you are just curious, start with the free trial or base version first. Jangan terus whale unless you know you are committing.

Why This Matters for SEA Players

FFXIV is already available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X and PC, but Switch 2 gives the game another access point for players who prefer console gaming without being locked to a desk. In SEA, where plenty of players juggle gaming between work, uni, commute time and family TV setups, portability could make a real difference.

The timing also gives Switch 2 players several months to catch up before the next expansion, FFXIV Evercold, arrives in January 2027.
