HoYoverse has reported that the launch of Genshin Impact version 5.0, titled "Natlan," has drawn a record number of players from Malaysia, pushing the country into the top ten markets for the game worldwide. The update, which introduced an entirely new region inspired by Latin American and indigenous cultures, attracted both returning veterans and a significant wave of new players.

According to data shared by HoYoverse during a regional media briefing, Malaysia's active player count for Genshin Impact increased by 65 percent in the first month following the 5.0 update compared to the previous version. The company attributed this growth to a combination of compelling new content, strong community engagement, and targeted marketing campaigns in the Malaysian market.

"Malaysia has always had a dedicated Genshin Impact community, but version 5.0 has taken it to another level," said Chen Wei, HoYoverse's regional marketing director for Southeast Asia. "We invested significantly in localized promotional content, including collaborations with popular Malaysian content creators and social media campaigns tailored for the local audience."

The update's success in Malaysia was amplified by a series of in-person events, including a Genshin Impact pop-up experience at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur that attracted over 20,000 visitors during its two-week run. Fans queued for hours to participate in interactive installations, purchase exclusive merchandise, and meet fellow players.

Malaysian Genshin Impact content creator Nurul Aqilah, who has over 800,000 subscribers on YouTube, noted a surge in viewership around the update. "My 5.0 content is performing three times better than any previous version. The excitement in the Malaysian community is real, and HoYoverse's effort to engage with us directly has made a huge difference," she said.

Market research firm Newzoo estimated that Malaysian players spent approximately $18 million on Genshin Impact in the fourth quarter of 2024 alone, a 45 percent increase year-over-year. The figure positions Malaysia as one of the highest per-capita spenders on the title in the Southeast Asian region, ahead of both Thailand and Indonesia on a per-user basis.

HoYoverse has indicated plans to host its first official Genshin Impact fan festival in Kuala Lumpur in mid-2025, further solidifying its investment in the Malaysian market.
