Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Orders Open in Malaysia
Nintendo has officially opened pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 in Malaysia, and the response from consumers has been nothing short of extraordinary. Major retailers including Impulse Gaming, GameXtreme MY, and Sony-authorized dealers reported that initial pre-order allocations were exhausted within hours of going live, prompting several to open waiting lists for subsequent shipments.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is priced at RM 2,299 for the standard edition and RM 2,799 for the bundle that includes Mario Kart World and a carry case. Nintendo Malaysia confirmed that the console will launch in the country on June 5, 2025, in line with the global release schedule, a departure from previous generations where Southeast Asian markets often faced delayed availability.
"We are incredibly pleased with the pre-order response in Malaysia," said Tomoko Sasaki, Nintendo's regional director for Southeast Asia. "This launch represents our commitment to treating Southeast Asian markets as day-one priorities. Malaysian fans have shown tremendous enthusiasm for Nintendo products, and we want to honor that with timely availability."
The Switch 2 features a larger 8-inch LCD display, enhanced processing power, and backward compatibility with existing Switch titles. The introduction of a magnetic Joy-Con attachment system and improved online capabilities have been particularly well received in hands-on previews.
Malaysian gaming community leader Ahmad Firdaus, who runs the popular Nintendo MY Facebook group with over 120,000 members, described the excitement as unprecedented. "I have never seen this level of demand for a Nintendo console in Malaysia. Our group has been buzzing non-stop since the pre-order announcement. Members are sharing tips on which retailers still have stock and organizing group orders," he said.
Market analyst Joanne Lim from Counterpoint Research SEA noted that the Switch 2 launch could significantly expand Nintendo's footprint in Malaysia. "Nintendo has always had a loyal but relatively small fanbase in Malaysia compared to PlayStation and Xbox. The Switch 2's hybrid design, strong launch lineup, and competitive pricing could attract a much broader audience, particularly families and casual gamers who have been priced out of other next-gen consoles," she explained.
Nintendo has also partnered with Malaysian telecommunications company Maxis to offer exclusive installment plans, allowing customers to spread payments over 12 months with zero interest.
