Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially launched the PlayStation 5 Pro across Southeast Asia, with the upgraded console now available in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. The launch follows strong pre-order demand that reportedly exceeded Sony's initial allocation for the region by over 60 percent.

In Malaysia, the PS5 Pro is priced at RM 3,199, while Singapore sees a price tag of SGD 1,049. Sony positioned the pricing competitively within the region, acknowledging the importance of affordability in emerging gaming markets. Despite the premium price point compared to the standard PS5, retailers across the region reported that pre-order stocks were exhausted within 48 hours of going live.

"The PlayStation 5 Pro represents the best of console gaming technology, and we are thrilled to bring it to our fans in Southeast Asia on a global launch timeline," said Takeshi Yamada, Sony Interactive Entertainment's vice president for the Asia Pacific region. "The demand we have seen validates our decision to treat SEA as a priority market."

The PS5 Pro features enhanced GPU performance with ray tracing capabilities, an upgraded solid-state drive offering faster load times, and support for 8K output. These improvements have been particularly appealing to the region's growing base of enthusiast gamers who invest in high-end displays and gaming setups.

Gaming retail chain GameXtreme in Singapore reported a 150 percent increase in console accessory sales alongside PS5 Pro purchases, suggesting that buyers are investing in complete ecosystems. Popular bundle options included the DualSense Edge controller and the PlayStation Portal remote player.

Industry analyst Priya Venkatesh from IDC Asia Pacific noted that the PS5 Pro launch could accelerate console adoption in SEA. "Console gaming has historically played second fiddle to mobile and PC gaming in this region. However, Sony's aggressive push with competitive pricing and localized marketing is shifting the landscape. We project console gaming revenue in SEA to grow by 25 percent in 2025, with the PS5 Pro being a major catalyst," she explained.

Sony has also announced partnerships with regional telecommunications providers to offer installment payment plans, making the console more accessible to a broader audience across the region.
