TikTok Gaming Content Hits 1 Billion Views in Malaysia
TikTok has officially confirmed that gaming-related content on its platform has crossed the one billion cumulative views mark in Malaysia, a milestone that underscores the platform's growing influence on the gaming industry in Southeast Asia. The announcement was made during a press event in Kuala Lumpur, where TikTok representatives shared data showing that gaming is now among the top five content categories in the country.
The surge in gaming content has been driven primarily by mobile gaming clips, walkthroughs, and comedic gaming skits, with titles like Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Genshin Impact, and Free Fire dominating the most-viewed charts. However, the platform has also seen a notable rise in content related to console and PC gaming, particularly around major releases.
"TikTok has become the discovery platform for a new generation of gamers in Malaysia," said Farah Idris, TikTok Malaysia's head of content partnerships. "Creators are not just sharing gameplay footage. They are building communities, offering tips, and even influencing purchase decisions. The one billion views milestone reflects the deep connection between gaming culture and short-form video."
Malaysian gaming content creator Amir Haziq, who boasts over 1.2 million followers on TikTok, noted that the platform's algorithm has been instrumental in helping smaller creators gain visibility. "I started posting gaming clips two years ago, and TikTok gave me an audience I never expected. Now brands and game publishers reach out to me for collaborations regularly," he shared.
Industry data from Niko Partners suggests that TikTok's influence on game discovery in Southeast Asia is second only to YouTube, with approximately 35 percent of Malaysian gamers aged 18 to 30 reporting that they learned about new games through TikTok. This trend is expected to intensify as TikTok continues to invest in gaming-specific features, including in-app game trials and creator partnership programs.
The milestone also highlights Malaysia's position as one of the fastest-growing gaming markets in the ASEAN region, with an estimated 21 million active gamers as of 2025.
