Two beginner-friendly Magic: The Gathering starter products just got cheaper on Amazon

Getting into Magic: The Gathering can feel a bit intimidating, especially if your friends already know the ropes and you are only just figuring out what a mana curve is. The good news is that two beginner-focused MTG products are currently discounted on Amazon, which makes the jump into the game a little less painful.

According to Polygon, the two deals are on the Avatar Beginner Box and the Foundations Starter Collection, both aimed at new players who want a simpler on-ramp into Magic’s massive card pool.

That matters because MTG is now 33 years old, and while its long history is part of the appeal, it also means there is a lot for newcomers to take in. Recent Universes Beyond crossover sets have been divisive among longtime fans, but they have also clearly brought fresh eyes into the game. If you are the kind of player who got curious because of a familiar franchise rather than classic Magic lore, Wizards of the Coast seems very aware of that.

For total beginners, the easier entry point here looks like the Avatar Beginner Box. If learning Magic through the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender sounds more approachable than diving straight into MTG’s original universe, this set is designed exactly for that. It comes with two mini decks built around Aang and Zuko, and those are used in a guided tutorial-style game. After that, players can mix in additional themed decks to experiment with different colour combinations.

Right now, that box is listed at $26.99, down from $34.99, which Polygon says works out to a 23% discount.

The other option is the Foundations Starter Collection, which sounds more like the next step once you understand the basics and want to start building something of your own. Wizards previously described it as something that should feel like inheriting a shoebox full of cards, and the numbers back that up. The box includes 387 cards in total, plus three Play Boosters.

It is not being positioned as a value box for rare pulls or expensive staples, but that is not really the point. This one is meant to give newer players enough material to start learning deckbuilding with the included guidance. Polygon also notes that it can serve as a decent starting point for Commander, since there are enough cards to begin putting together a 100-card deck, along with format staples such as Arcane Signet.

That set is currently going for $54.71, which is $5 off its usual price.

For Malaysian and wider SEA readers, these kinds of starter deals are worth watching because tabletop hobbies rarely feel cheap once currency conversion, shipping, and availability enter the picture. Even if Amazon is not always the most convenient option in this region, discounted beginner products can still be useful benchmarks when comparing local reseller prices. If a local shop or marketplace listing lands near these sale prices after conversion, that is usually a decent sign.

It is also worth noting that MTG Arena remains one of the easiest ways to learn the game digitally before spending on physical cards. But if you prefer learning across a real table with friends, these two products seem to cover both early stages well: Avatar Beginner Box for learning the basics, and Foundations Starter Collection for moving into deckbuilding and even first-step Commander play.

Polygon also mentions that another Beginner Box is on the way alongside the Marvel set in June, so newer players may have even more entry-level options soon.
