Apple Card Promo Could Make AirPods Pro 3 “Free” — But Malaysia Misses Out For Now

Apple is reportedly preparing a pretty aggressive Apple Card sign-up push: get the card in-store, buy AirPods Pro 3, and receive enough cashback to cancel out the price.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the promotion could begin as early as next week and is expected to be limited to Apple retail stores. The reported mechanic is simple: customers who apply for an Apple Card in-store would receive US$249 cashback when they purchase AirPods Pro 3.

That matters because the AirPods Pro 3 are priced at exactly US$249 in the US. So while Apple may not technically be handing over a free box of earbuds at the counter, the cashback would effectively make them free after the transaction.

For Malaysian readers, the catch is obvious: Apple Card is still a US-only product. It launched back in 2019 through Apple’s partnership with Goldman Sachs and Mastercard, and it is built tightly around the iPhone. Users manage the card through Apple Wallet and earn cashback on purchases made with it.

So no, this is not something Malaysians can casually walk into an Apple Store in KL and claim — at least not based on the current report. Malaysia does not have Apple Card support, and the deal is apparently tied to physical Apple retail locations in markets where the card is available.

Still, it is worth watching because Apple promos in the US often show what the company is trying to push globally. In this case, Apple seems to be using one of its most popular accessories to drive financial services sign-ups. AirPods are already one of the easiest Apple products to recommend, especially for iPhone users who want strong noise cancellation, seamless pairing, and that “it just works” ecosystem feeling.

For SEA, the bigger question is whether Apple ever expands Apple Card beyond the US. A cashback-focused Apple card could be interesting in markets like Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand, where e-wallets, bank promos, instalment plans, and marketplace vouchers are already a huge part of how people buy tech. But Apple would need local banking partners, regulatory clearance, and a rewards structure that actually competes with what Malaysians already get from credit cards and platforms like Shopee or Lazada.

If Apple brought a similar promo here, an AirPods Pro bundle would definitely get attention. At Malaysian pricing, AirPods Pro models are usually a premium buy, not an impulse add-on. A proper cashback or bank tie-in could easily sway iPhone users who have been waiting for a discount.

For now though, this looks like a US Apple Store promo first. Malaysian Apple fans can only tengok from the sidelines — but it is still a useful signal of how hard Apple may be pushing both AirPods Pro 3 and Apple Card together.
