GTA 6 delays are not exactly shocking anymore, but this latest comment from Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick gives us a clearer idea of just how far the game has slipped from Rockstar’s earlier internal plan.
Speaking in an interview with David Senra, Zelnick said Grand Theft Auto 6 is “about 18 months behind the original date”, adding that it is not much more than that. In simple gamer terms: if everything had gone smoothly, we might already be more than a year deep into Vice City chaos by now.
Instead, GTA 6 is currently lined up for a November 2026 launch after previously being expected in 2025, then pushed into May 2026, before moving again to November. That is a long wait, bro — especially for a game that has been treated like the final boss of modern entertainment releases.
Rockstar Is Still Chasing Perfection
Zelnick’s position is basically this: delays hurt, but shipping a rushed GTA 6 would be worse. He previously said the most important thing is supporting teams in their “search for perfection”, even while admitting that delays are painful.
Honestly, for a game this massive, that makes sense. GTA 6 is not some yearly franchise update where everyone forgets the bugs after two patches. This is Rockstar’s first new Grand Theft Auto since GTA 5, a game that has somehow survived across three console generations and kept GTA Online alive for more than a decade.
If GTA 6 launches broken, the internet will not be kind. Not in Malaysia, not in SEA, not anywhere.
Why Malaysian And SEA Players Should Care
For Malaysian gamers, the biggest impact is planning. If GTA 6 is still console-first and not launching on PC at the same time, a lot of local players will have decisions to make. Do you grab it on PS5 or Xbox first, or wait for the eventual PC version? For a country where PC gaming, cybercafes, and budget-conscious setups are still a huge part of the scene, that delay matters.
There is also the price factor. Big AAA console games are already not cheap here, usually sitting in the RM200-RM350 range depending on edition, platform, and retailer. If Rockstar drops premium editions or early access bundles, expect the local conversation to get spicy fast.
And let’s be real: GTA is one of those games that cuts across normal gaming circles. Even casual players who do not follow every trailer breakdown will know when GTA 6 drops. Malaysian TikTok, Discord servers, console groups, and Facebook gaming pages are going to be flooded with clips the moment it goes live.
No Pre-Orders Yet, But More News Could Be Coming
There were rumours that pre-orders might open very soon, but nothing official has happened based on the source material. The more realistic expectation is that Rockstar and Take-Two will share more details closer to summer, ahead of the planned November 2026 release window.
Zelnick has also sounded confident when asked about whether GTA 6 could be delayed again, even joking about the idea. Still, after multiple shifts already, players will believe the date only when the game is actually downloading on their console.
For now, the takeaway is simple: GTA 6 was probably supposed to be out much earlier, but Rockstar is still taking its time. Frustrating? Definitely. But if the final game lands properly, most players will forgive the wait in about five minutes after stealing their first car in Vice City.
