Hollowbody’s Solo-Dev Survival Horror Hits PS5 and Xbox on June 5

Horror fans on console, take note: Hollowbody is making the jump from PC to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on June 5.

The survival horror title first launched on PC in 2024, where it picked up attention for doing something very specific — bringing back that grimy, low-poly PS2-era horror vibe, but without feeling like a lazy nostalgia cash-in. Even more impressive, the whole thing was built by a solo developer, which makes its mood, presentation and scope feel even more wild.

For players in Malaysia and SEA who grew up with games like Silent Hill 2, this one is probably going to hit a very familiar nerve. Hollowbody clearly takes inspiration from that old-school psychological horror era, but it does not simply drop you into another foggy cursed town. The game leans more into a cyberpunk-flavoured nightmare, which gives it a colder, more industrial edge.

That matters because retro horror is having a proper moment right now. A lot of indie developers are chasing the PS1/PS2 look, but Hollowbody stands out because the style is tied directly to the tension. The environments are unsettling, the enemies are nasty, and the whole thing is built around that slow-burn survival horror pressure where every corridor feels like bad news.

The console version will be priced at $17 on both PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. For Malaysian players, that should put it somewhere around the affordable indie range, though the final local store pricing may vary depending on platform conversion and regional pricing. Either way, this is not a full-price horror gamble — it is the kind of smaller release that can fit nicely between bigger AAA drops.

Good news also: the console release is not just a simple port. It comes with multiple quality-of-life improvements, bug fixes, new puzzles and a third-person camera mode. That last part could make the game more approachable for players who like classic horror atmosphere but prefer a slightly more modern feel.

And if you are worried about the retro look coming with retro frustration, relax bro. Hollowbody does not force old-school tank controls on you. The classic setup, where pushing up moves your character forward while left and right rotate them, is still available if you want the full purist experience. But for everyone else, the game supports more modern controls.

That is a smart move. A lot of Malaysian and SEA players enjoy the nostalgia of survival horror, but not everyone wants to fight the controller more than the monsters. Keeping tank controls optional means Hollowbody can satisfy the hardcore Silent Hill crowd without scaring away newer players who discovered horror through modern Resident Evil remakes.

If you missed the PC launch, June 5 is a solid chance to catch up. Hollowbody looks like one of those indie horror games that understands the assignment: atmosphere first, combat second, vibes absolutely cursed.
