Intel’s Core Ultra 7 270K Plus is looking a lot more tempting for PC gamers planning a serious desktop upgrade. The chip is now listed on Amazon for US$279.99, which The Verge notes is its lowest price so far and around US$45 off its usual price.
For Malaysian buyers, that works out to roughly RM1,300 before shipping, taxes, currency swings, and any local reseller markup. So yes, still not exactly “cheap cheap” once it reaches our side of the world — but for a newer high-performance gaming CPU, this is the kind of price drop worth paying attention to.
Why this CPU matters for gamers
Intel pitched the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus in late March as one of its fastest gaming desktop processors, and early benchmark chatter seems to back that up. Gamers Nexus testing showed the chip pushing close to AMD’s more expensive Ryzen 9000-series X3D processors, which are usually the darlings for high-end gaming builds thanks to their extra cache.
That’s a big deal because AMD’s X3D chips have been the default recommendation for many PC gamers who want strong frame rates, especially in esports titles and CPU-sensitive games. If Intel can get close while undercutting price, that makes the build conversation more interesting again.
The Verge also notes that the 270K Plus beats the Core i9-14900K in many workloads. That older i9 has been a favourite among gamers and creators for a long time, so seeing a newer Ultra 7 chip overtake it in multiple tasks gives builders a nice reason to consider moving platforms instead of just hunting last-gen discounts.
The catch: new platform cost
Before anyone in Malaysia starts adding to cart terus, remember this is not a drop-in upgrade for every existing PC. The Core Ultra 7 270K Plus needs an LGA 1851 motherboard. That means if you are currently on an older Intel socket, you are probably looking at a new motherboard too.
The upside is that LGA 1851 boards can come with modern features like DDR5 memory support, multiple M.2 SSD slots, and Wi-Fi 7, depending on the model. For a fresh gaming PC build in 2026, that’s a strong foundation — especially if you want fast storage for huge game installs and better wireless performance for home setups.
But the full build cost can still sting. DDR5 RAM prices have not been as friendly as PC builders would like, and that matters a lot in Malaysia where every RM counts. A CPU discount is nice, but your final receipt will depend heavily on motherboard, RAM, cooler, PSU, and GPU pricing from local shops, Shopee, Lazada, or Low Yat-style retailers.
Bonus game included
There is also a small gaming perk: Intel is offering a full download of Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight for eligible purchases registered by July 31. It is not the main reason to buy a CPU, obviously, but free games are always welcome when you are already spending serious money on a new rig.
For SEA gamers, the smart move is to treat this Amazon deal as a pricing signal. If local retailers start adjusting prices, the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus could become a very strong option for high-FPS esports builds, streaming setups, and general gaming PCs. Just don’t forget to calculate the full platform cost before declaring it a bargain, bro.
