Logitech has a very simple idea for iPad keyboard cases, and honestly, more brands should copy it: add another USB-C port.
The company’s new Rugged Combo 4c and Rugged Combo 4c Touch keyboard cases are made for Apple’s 10th-gen and 11th-gen iPads. The big upgrade is a second USB-C port built into the case, used only for power delivery. That means you can charge the iPad through the case while keeping the tablet’s own USB-C port free for other accessories.
Small thing? Maybe. But if you’ve ever tried using an iPad as a laptop replacement, you know this is the kind of quality-of-life feature that matters.
Why this actually matters
Apple keeps pushing the iPad closer to laptop territory, especially with keyboard cases, multitasking features, external storage support, and USB-C accessories. But the basic iPad still has one very obvious limitation: one USB-C port.
So if you’re charging, that port is gone. Want to plug in a wired mouse, headphones, external SSD, card reader, or USB-C hub? Time to choose, bro.
Logitech’s solution does not magically turn the iPad into a MacBook, but it removes one daily annoyance. For students, creators, and workers who move around a lot, being able to charge and still connect something else is a very practical upgrade.
This is especially relevant in Malaysia and SEA, where plenty of students and freelancers use iPads as their main portable machine. You’ll see this setup in campuses, cafés, coworking spaces, and even during events — iPad, keyboard case, maybe a mouse, maybe a drive full of files. A second charging port makes that whole workflow less messy.
Built for schools, but useful beyond classrooms
The catch: these Rugged Combo 4c cases are mainly aimed at schools. Logitech typically sells this line to educational institutions through authorised distributors, not directly as a regular retail accessory.
That said, The Verge notes that older Rugged Combo models have appeared on Amazon through resellers, usually around US$140 to US$150. No Malaysia pricing is listed in the source, but that rough range converts to about RM660 to RM710 before shipping, tax, and reseller markups. If it ever lands properly here, expect it to sit in the premium keyboard-case zone, not the cheap Shopee impulse-buy category.
The case keeps the rugged features from the earlier Combo 4 models. Logitech says the keyboard is fully sealed, spill-resistant, and easy to clean. It also offers drop protection up to 6.6 feet, which makes sense for classrooms but is also nice if your iPad spends half its life in a backpack.
Another useful detail: it uses the iPad’s Smart Connector, so the keyboard does not need its own battery or separate charging. The Rugged Combo 4c Touch version also adds a multitouch trackpad for gestures, scrolling, zooming, and iPad multitasking.
Apple Pencil storage gets better too
Logitech also updated the case design so the Apple Pencil can attach magnetically while a latch keeps it secured during transport. Anyone who has lost a stylus inside a bag knows this is not a small bonus.
The main takeaway is simple: iPad keyboard cases should stop treating USB-C like an afterthought. If Apple wants the iPad to feel more laptop-like, accessory makers need to help solve the practical pain points too.
Logitech may be targeting schools first, but this idea deserves to go mainstream. Give us keyboard cases with smarter ports, better accessory support, and fewer dongle headaches. Malaysian iPad users would absolutely appreciate that.
