Classic puzzle-adventure fans, this one is for the old heads and the curious newcomers. Cyan Worlds is bringing its modern remakes of Myst and Riven to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and the Microsoft Store on May 19.

Both games have already been available on Steam and the macOS App Store, but this new console release matters because it puts two of gaming’s most influential puzzle worlds in front of a much wider living-room audience. If you grew up hearing people talk about Myst like it was some legendary PC artefact, this is basically the cleaner, modern way to see what the fuss was about.

On PS5, Myst and Riven can be played normally on a TV, or in VR using PlayStation VR2. That VR support is probably the most interesting bit for players who want something slower and more atmospheric than the usual action-heavy headset showcase. These games are all about exploring strange worlds, reading the environment, solving puzzles, and letting the mystery slowly click in your brain — memang ngam for VR if you enjoy immersive, brainy games.

The PS5 versions also come with a few visual and performance upgrades. In flatscreen mode, both games support ray-traced reflections, and there is a Performance Mode that pushes the experience from 30fps to 60fps by turning off some graphical extras. They also support PlayStation’s Power Saver Mode, which is a nice small win for anyone who leaves the console running during long puzzle sessions.

If you are on PS5 Pro, Cyan Worlds says both titles are PS5 Pro Enhanced, with improvements to things like view distance, foliage, textures, post-processing and shading. Not exactly the kind of game where frame-perfect reactions matter, but sharper environments do help when the whole point is noticing clues and tiny details.

For Xbox players, Riven is getting improvements that Cyan previously built into the Myst remake. The Xbox version supports Xbox Play Anywhere, meaning you can buy it once and play across supported Xbox and PC setups. It also includes ray-traced reflections, Performance Mode, plus 4K and HDR support on compatible displays.

That Xbox Play Anywhere bit is especially useful for Malaysian and SEA players who split time between console and PC. Maybe you start solving puzzles on the TV, then continue later on a gaming laptop — less friction, more convenience. For a slow-burn game like Riven, that flexibility actually makes sense.

Cyan has revisited Myst and Riven multiple times over the years, but this current remake era really kicked off with Myst on Meta Quest in 2020, which rebuilt the game as a proper 3D space. A non-VR version later reached PC and Mac in 2021, then iOS in 2023. Riven’s remake is newer, launching in 2024 for PC, Mac and Quest.

Pricing is set at $35 each for Myst and Riven on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Microsoft Store. As a rough Malaysian conversion, that is around the RM160-ish range before any regional pricing, tax or store-specific differences. Not cheap-cheap, but for puzzle fans who want a polished version of two genre classics, this is a pretty meaningful release.
