Nintendo Switch 2 Is Getting A Choose-Your-Game Bundle Before Prices Go Up

Nintendo is giving Switch 2 buyers one more reason to make a decision before the console gets more expensive.

Starting in early June, Nintendo will roll out a new Nintendo Switch 2: Choose Your Game Bundle. Instead of locking buyers into just one packed-in title, this bundle includes a download code that can be redeemed for one of three digital games: Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, or Pokémon Pokopia.

The bundle is priced at US$499.99, matching the launch-era Mario Kart World bundle. The important bit: that same price will become the cost of a Switch 2 with no game included from Sept. 1, after Nintendo’s planned price increase kicks in.

So yes, if you were already planning to buy a Switch 2, this is basically the cleaner deal. You are effectively paying about US$50 for the game, which works out to a saving of around US$20 to US$30, depending on which title you choose.

For Malaysian and SEA players, the timing matters. Imported console pricing here usually already feels painful once you factor in exchange rates, retailer margins, and local availability. A US$499.99 bundle is already not cheap — roughly in the RM2,000-plus zone before any local markup — so getting a first-party game included before the hardware-only price catches up is the kind of thing worth watching.

The three-game selection is also pretty decent. Mario Kart World is the obvious family-and-friends pick, especially if your Switch mostly lives in the living room or gets brought out during gatherings. Donkey Kong Bananza gives the bundle a more traditional Nintendo platforming option, which makes sense since it was one of the company’s big first-party launch-window titles alongside Mario Kart World.

The most interesting choice, though, is Pokémon Pokopia.

It is not a mainline Pokémon RPG, and in Japan it is technically published by The Pokémon Company rather than Nintendo itself. But the game has turned into a proper sleeper hit. Nintendo recently revealed that Pokémon Pokopia sold more than 4 million copies in just five weeks, which is wild for a spin-off.

That makes its inclusion feel less random than it first looks. Pokopia seems to have landed especially well with nostalgic Pokémon fans — the type who may not always rush into every new Pokémon release, but still have a soft spot for the older creature-collecting magic. For SEA fans who grew up with Pokémon on Game Boy, DS, or 3DS, this could be the bundle that feels more emotionally tempting than the usual racing or platforming picks.

Still, this is not quite the same as Nintendo launching with a massive Zelda-level must-buy game. None of these are positioned like Breath of the Wild was for the original Switch. But as a value play before a price increase, the bundle makes sense — especially for buyers who were already hovering around the checkout button.

The catch? Nintendo says the Choose Your Game Bundle will only be around for a limited time and depends on stock availability. With the Sept. 1 price change sitting just a few months away, this feels like the kind of window where waiting too long could mean paying the same amount later for less.

If Malaysian retailers bring this bundle in at a fair price, it could become the smarter Switch 2 entry point for local buyers. If they mark it up too hard, then bro, time to do the usual Shopee/Lazada price stalking.
