Blizzard has launched a proper Nintendo Switch 2 version of Overwatch today, and for handheld-first players, that is easily the biggest headline from the game’s new Season 2 update.
According to Blizzard, the Switch 2 edition comes with better visuals, improved sound, and performance of up to 60 FPS in both docked and handheld play. That is a major step up for a game where responsiveness matters, especially in fast team fights and ranked matches.
For players in Malaysia and across Southeast Asia, that matters more than it might in other regions. A lot of gamers here still value flexible play, whether that means squeezing in a few matches while travelling, sharing a TV at home, or simply preferring a portable setup over a full desk rig. If Blizzard can actually hold that smoother frame rate in real matches, the Switch 2 version could finally feel like a serious way to keep up with the game instead of just a compromise.
The Switch 2 launch arrives together with Season 2 of Blizzard’s newly reworked Overwatch, which also adds a fresh damage hero named Sierra. She is the sixth new hero of 2026, with Blizzard saying four more are still on the way this year.
Sierra also comes with story ties to Soldier: 76 and Reaper, thanks to her mother’s mysterious super soldier background. In combat, she looks built for players who like precision mixed with mobility. Her rifle fires in a spiral pattern and becomes more accurate the longer you keep shooting. She can also tag enemies with a homing beacon so her shots track better, launch a drone from her arm to use as a moving grapple point, and throw a small bomb that creates a shockwave on impact. Her ultimate sends out a low-flying drone attack that carpet-bombs an area.
Blizzard is also pairing Sierra’s debut with a new Grand Mesa event. By clearing challenges, players can unlock more lore about her, along with cosmetic rewards.
Season 2 is not just about one hero, either. Blizzard has reworked Antarctic Peninsula, saying the map now has cleaner engagements, smoother team pushes, and more meaningful flank routes. Post-match accolades are also back, though this time they appear with 3D-rendered characters instead of the old card-style presentation.
Over in Stadium mode, Blizzard is adding Ramattra right away, while a new utility hero called Jetpack Cat is set to arrive mid-season. Juno is also being reworked in Stadium for better balance and reliability, and the mode is getting a new map too: Lijiang Night Market.
Several heroes are receiving perk reworks as well, including Mercy, Soldier: 76, Reaper, Pharah, and Ramattra. On the cosmetic side, this season’s mythic rewards go to Soldier: 76 for an armour skin and Genji for a weapon skin, with both evolving as they level up. Blizzard is also adding a limited Sakura-themed skin collection for selected characters, plus a collaboration with Korean girl group Le Sserafim.
All of this comes after Blizzard effectively relaunched the game at the start of the year by dropping the "2" from Overwatch and shifting toward bigger yearly updates, stronger lore hooks, and more event-driven seasonal content. Blizzard also introduced five new heroes as part of that wider reset, although Eurogamer notes the game has not been as popular since that relaunch.
Even so, the Switch 2 version feels like a meaningful win. If Blizzard can deliver a genuinely smoother portable experience, that could make this season especially worth watching for SEA players who want a more convenient way back into Overwatch.
