Overwatch on Switch 2 Shows Off Sharper Visuals and Up to 60FPS

Blizzard has released an official side-by-side video comparing Overwatch on the original Nintendo Switch with the newer Switch 2 version, and yes bro, the upgrade is noticeable — even if it is not some wild next-gen transformation.

The free-to-play team shooter, previously known as Overwatch 2, arrived on Switch 2 last week. The launch apparently was not totally smooth, but Blizzard has already pushed out an update to clean things up. Now that the game is running properly on Nintendo’s newer hardware, Blizzard is showing players what has changed.

According to the official comparison, Switch 2 players can expect better visuals, improved audio fidelity, and performance of up to 60 frames per second in both docked and handheld mode. That last point matters a lot. For a fast hero shooter like Overwatch, frame rate is not just a nice bonus — it affects how responsive the game feels when you are tracking targets, dodging ultimates, or trying not to panic-heal your whole team.

What actually looks better?

Blizzard’s comparison video does not go super deep into technical details, so do not expect a Digital Foundry-style breakdown here. But from what has been shown, the Switch 2 version appears cleaner, especially in the environments. Textures and resolution look sharper compared with the older Switch release.

Good Vibes Gaming had also checked out the Switch 2 version before Blizzard’s latest patch and found some improvement in resolution and texture quality over the original Switch edition. With the newer update now resolving the frame rate issues, the Switch 2 release sounds like it is finally in the state players expected at launch.

Why Malaysian and SEA players should care

For Malaysia and SEA, this is the kind of upgrade that makes handheld competitive games more realistic to actually play. A lot of us use the Switch as a second-screen console — bedroom, dorm, balik kampung, hotel Wi-Fi, mamak-adjacent sessions if you are brave enough. Overwatch is not the easiest game to enjoy when the frame rate is unstable, so getting up to 60FPS in handheld mode is a big deal.

It also makes Switch 2 a more serious option for casual Overwatch players who do not want to sit at a PC every time they queue. No, it probably will not replace a proper gaming PC setup for sweaty ranked grinders. But for quick games, hero practice, or just jumping in with friends, the smoother performance helps a lot.

Another plus: Overwatch is free-to-play and available through the eShop, so players can download it without buying a full-priced cartridge or digital release. For Malaysian gamers already spending on battle passes, skins, mobile games, gacha pulls, and whatever Steam sale destroyed the wallet this month, free entry definitely helps.

New season, new hero

The Switch 2 update also lands alongside Overwatch’s new season and its latest hero, Sierra. Blizzard has released a separate video showing Sierra in action, so players coming back for the performance upgrade also have fresh content to check out.

Overall, this is not a massive reinvention of Overwatch, but it is a meaningful Switch upgrade. Sharper visuals, better sound, and fixed 60FPS support make the Switch 2 version much easier to recommend than the older Switch experience. If Blizzard keeps the performance stable, this could become one of the better ways to play Overwatch casually on the go.
