Sony is kicking off the June gaming showcase season early, and PlayStation fans may want to set an alarm — or just watch the replay with kopi the next morning.
Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed a new PlayStation State of Play showcase for Tuesday, June 2, with the stream headlined by a longer look at Marvel’s Wolverine, the upcoming superhero game from Insomniac Games.
For Malaysia and Singapore viewers, the timing lands at 5am on Wednesday, June 3. Not exactly mamak-friendly timing unless your sleep schedule already belongs to ranked grinders, but this is one of those showcases PS5 owners will probably want to catch up on before work or class.
What Sony has confirmed
PlayStation says the new State of Play will run for more than 60 minutes, covering updates, announcements, and gameplay reveals from studios around the world.
The only game specifically confirmed so far is Marvel’s Wolverine. That alone is enough to make this stream worth watching, especially because Insomniac’s superhero track record is already strong thanks to its Spider-Man games. For Malaysian and SEA players, the big question is simple: will Wolverine look like another polished cinematic action blockbuster, or will it bring something sharper and more brutal than the usual safe superhero formula?
Sony has not officially named the full lineup, so don’t go in expecting every rumoured game to appear. That said, PlayStation’s first-party pipeline already has several announced projects floating around, including a God of War trilogy remake from Santa Monica Studio, Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Guerrilla’s Horizon Hunters Gathering, and Haven Studios’ Fairgames.
There are also rumours around a new God of War spinoff and a modern return for Infamous, but those remain unconfirmed for this show.
What else could appear?
Sony’s previous State of Play in February focused heavily on third-party games. That stream featured titles such as Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, Beast of Reincarnation, Kena: Scars of Kosmora, Silent Hill: Downfall, Project Windless, 4:Loop, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, and Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse.
It would be unrealistic to expect major updates on every one of those games, but a few return appearances or release date confirmations would make sense. For SEA players, release dates matter a lot because buying games at launch in Malaysia is not cheap. A standard PS5 release can already feel painful once you factor in RM pricing, deluxe editions, and the usual digital store temptation.
Third-party partners are also worth watching. Players are still waiting on clearer updates for Kingdom Hearts 4, the third chapter of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, plus Capcom’s upcoming Onimusha and Mega Man projects. If even one of those appears, the stream instantly becomes more than just “the Wolverine show”.
Don’t expect PS6 news
If you are hoping for PlayStation 6 details, relax first bro — this is probably not the place.
Sony recently said it has not locked down the pricing or launch timing for PlayStation 6, partly because of continued shortages in computer memory. CEO Hiroki Totoki also mentioned that Sony may consider changing business models for its next console. So while PlayStation-branded hardware is still expected in 2026, this State of Play is not being positioned as a next-gen console reveal.
PC players should also temper expectations. The report notes that fans should not count on more single-player PC ports of first-party PS5 games at this showcase.
For now, the headline is clear: Marvel’s Wolverine finally gets the spotlight, and PlayStation has a full hour to convince PS5 owners that the next wave of games is worth staying in the ecosystem for.
For Malaysia, the smart move is simple: skip the 5am live watch unless you’re hardcore, then catch the trailers before the timeline spoils everything.
