Pokémon Pokopia Is Already A Switch 2 Monster Hit

Pokémon Pokopia is turning into one of the early heavy-hitters for Nintendo Switch 2, and honestly, the numbers are pretty wild.

Nintendo has confirmed in its latest earnings report that Pokémon Pokopia sold more than 4 million copies globally within its first five weeks. The cozy sim launched for Nintendo Switch 2 on March 5, 2026, and that early momentum already puts it among the top five best-selling Pokémon spin-offs of all time.

That is not small side-game energy. That is “this thing might become the biggest Pokémon spin-off ever” territory.

Pokopia is pulling in a broad crowd

Nintendo said Pokopia is being picked up by “a broad range of players regardless of gender,” and noted that many players are using Switch 2-specific features such as GameShare.

That part is important. Pokopia is not being positioned like a hardcore competitive Pokémon title or a mainline RPG grind. It looks more like Nintendo’s cozy, social-friendly play: the kind of game that works for couples, siblings, casual players, and anyone who wants Pokémon vibes without worrying about IVs, EVs, ranked ladders, or breeding spreadsheets.

For Malaysia and SEA, that matters because Nintendo’s biggest wins here often come from games that are easy to understand, fun to share, and friendly for group play. Think Animal Crossing energy, but with Pokémon branding. If Pokopia keeps riding that lane, it could become one of those Switch 2 games that gets passed around in campus dorms, family living rooms, and weekend lepak sessions.

Already chasing Pokémon spin-off history

According to sales comparisons highlighted by Serebii’s Joe Merrick, older Pokémon spin-offs still hold some of the biggest totals. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red/Blue Rescue Team sits at 5.85 million, while Explorers of Time and Darkness reached 4.8 million. The Pokémon Trading Card Game also posted 3.72 million.

With Pokopia already above 4 million after only five weeks, it is closing fast. It would need another 1,850,001 copies to move past Mystery Dungeon: Red/Blue Rescue Team and claim the top spot among Pokémon spin-offs.

And since Nintendo’s number only covers the first five weeks, there is a real chance Pokopia has already narrowed the gap further by now.

Big deal for Switch 2, too

The attach rate is the spicy part. GamesRadar notes that Switch 2 has sold just under 20 million units, meaning almost one in five Switch 2 owners has bought Pokopia.

That makes it the third best-selling Switch 2 game based on the figures mentioned, with Donkey Kong Bananza still ahead in second place at 4.52 million copies. But Pokopia is close enough that Nintendo’s upcoming Pokopia Switch 2 bundle in some regions could help push it past Donkey Kong soon.

Pokopia has also already overtaken the Switch 2 Edition sales of Pokémon Legends Z-A, though that comparison comes with a big note: Legends Z-A has sold 8.85 million on the original Switch as well.

Nintendo also shared that the Switch 2 ports of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen sold 4 million copies, pushing those RPGs to 16 million overall and into the top 10 best-selling Pokémon games ever.

Why Malaysian players should care

If you are planning a Switch 2 purchase, Pokopia is quickly becoming one of the key games to watch. It is not just “another Pokémon thing.” It is shaping up to be one of the platform’s early system-sellers, especially for players who want something more relaxed than competitive battling or massive open-world RPGs.

For local retailers and Nintendo fans in Malaysia, this also hints at where demand could go next: cozy multiplayer, social-friendly Pokémon, and bundles that make the Switch 2 feel more family-friendly from day one.

Basically, Pokopia is not just doing well. It is proving that Pokémon spin-offs still have serious pull when Nintendo finds the right hook.
