Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Leak Points To Slimmer Body, 5,000mAh Battery And 45W Charging

Samsung’s next foldable wave is starting to look clearer, at least if the latest leaks are on point. According to details reported by GSMArena, Samsung is expected to reveal its next-generation foldables on July 22, with the Galaxy Z Fold8 and a separate Galaxy Z Fold Wide now appearing in the rumour mill.

For Malaysian tech fans, this one is worth watching closely. Foldables are still very much premium devices here, so any real improvements to weight, battery life and charging speed matter a lot more than just another spec-sheet flex. If you are paying flagship money, the phone needs to feel less like a fragile tablet experiment and more like a proper daily driver.

Galaxy Z Fold8: thinner, lighter, bigger battery

The main Galaxy Z Fold8 is reportedly powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip. That should put it firmly in ultra-flagship territory, assuming the leak is accurate.

The more interesting part is the build. The Fold8 is tipped to weigh around 210g and measure just 4.1mm thick when unfolded. For a foldable, that is gila thin. Weight has always been one of the biggest complaints with book-style foldables, especially when you are carrying it around KL, using it on the MRT, or gaming one-handed while waiting for makan.

Camera-wise, Samsung may not be changing everything. The Fold8 is said to keep the same 200MP main rear camera from the Galaxy Z Fold7, while the ultrawide camera could get upgraded to 50MP. Selfie cameras are expected to stay at 10MP.

That ultrawide upgrade is nice for travel, convention halls, group shots and event coverage, but some users will probably still ask the same question: where is the bigger telephoto improvement? For esports events, concerts, cosplay stages or even just snapping stuff from further away, zoom performance can matter more than ultrawide resolution.

Battery is another key upgrade. The leak claims the Galaxy Z Fold8 will pack a 5,000mAh battery, matching an earlier rumour from March. Wired charging may also move up to 45W. That is important because foldables are usually productivity-and-entertainment machines: YouTube, Discord, Mobile Legends, manga apps, Google Docs, the whole chaos. A larger battery and faster charging would make the Fold8 feel more practical for SEA users who spend long days away from a wall plug.

Galaxy Z Fold Wide: different shape, lighter build?

The Galaxy Z Fold Wide sounds like Samsung’s other foldable play. Based on the leak, it may feature a 7.6-inch inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio. That shape could make it better for reading, multitasking, comics, documents and web browsing compared to taller foldable layouts.

It is also rumoured to use a dual rear camera setup: a 50MP main camera and a 50MP ultrawide. No telephoto is mentioned in the leaked specs, so this model may be positioned differently from the main Fold8.

The Fold Wide is tipped to carry a 4,800mAh battery, support 45W wired charging and weigh around 200g. If true, that would make it slightly lighter than the rumoured Fold8, which could be a big deal for people who want the big-screen foldable experience without feeling like they are pocketing a mini brick.

Why Malaysia and SEA should care

Foldables are still niche in Malaysia, mostly because the price barrier is high and durability worries have not fully disappeared. But if Samsung can make the next Fold series lighter, thinner and better on battery, the category becomes easier to justify for power users, creators, business owners and hardcore media consumers.

For now, everything here is still leak territory. The July 22 Unpacked date has also not been officially confirmed in this source material. But if these specs hold, Samsung’s next foldables may be less about flashy redesigns and more about fixing the everyday pain points that actually matter.
