Samsung’s Own One UI 9 Files May Have Shown the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Wide Fold Early

Samsung might be doing Samsung things again, bro. Instead of waiting for random case makers or blurry factory photos, the company’s own One UI 9 software appears to have revealed images of two upcoming foldable phones: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the so-called Wide Fold.

According to Android Authority, images found inside a build of Samsung’s One UI 9 software show two devices: the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which is reportedly codenamed Q8, and the Wide Fold, codenamed H8. That is not an official product launch, of course, but when assets show up inside Samsung’s own software, people are obviously going to pay attention.

The Wide Fold looks like the more interesting one

The Wide Fold is the device that sounds more exciting right now. Based on the image found in One UI 9, it lines up with previous unofficial renders that have already been floating around. The design apparently has a shorter, chunkier overall shape, a rear camera bump that resembles the Galaxy S25 Edge, and a squat-looking cover display.

This is also not the first time the Wide Fold has appeared inside One UI 9. Android Authority previously found an animation for the device back in February, though that earlier find did not show the rear cover. This newer image gives a better idea of what Samsung may be cooking.

Why should Malaysian and SEA tech fans care? Because foldables are no longer just flex devices for rich uncles at the airport lounge. In markets like Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia, Samsung’s Fold line has become the mainstream reference point for premium foldables. If Samsung is seriously working on a wider Fold-style device, it could mean a more comfortable cover screen and a less awkward daily phone experience — which is honestly one of the biggest complaints with book-style foldables.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 may look very familiar

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 image, meanwhile, seems much less dramatic. Android Authority says the device looks almost identical to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. That matches earlier leaked renders, which also suggested Samsung may not be changing the outer design much this time.

But before everyone calls it a lazy refresh, there may still be useful upgrades under the hood. Earlier leaks suggest the Z Fold 8 could come with a 5,000mAh battery and 45W wired charging. If true, that would matter more than a tiny cosmetic change, especially for SEA users who are on their phones all day for work, gaming, Grab, TikTok, WhatsApp, and the usual doomscrolling marathon.

For Malaysian buyers, the big question is still value. No official RM pricing has been announced yet, and Samsung foldables usually sit in premium flagship territory. So if the Z Fold 8 keeps the same basic look, it really needs battery life, charging, durability, camera performance, and software polish to justify the upgrade.

Launch timing still not confirmed

There is no confirmed launch window for either device yet. Samsung usually reveals its new foldables around July, so the second half of the year still feels like the obvious period to watch.

For now, treat this as a strong leak rather than confirmed hardware. Still, if Samsung’s own One UI 9 files are already carrying images of these devices, the leak season is definitely warming up. Expect more renders, specs, case leaks, and maybe even hands-on photos before Samsung officially says anything.
