Sony’s Leaked The ColleXion Headphones Look Like a Premium WH-1000XM6 Spin-Off

Sony’s WH-1000X line has basically become the default “serious noise-cancelling headphone” pick for a lot of people — office workers, frequent flyers, students, gamers who want peace, the whole gang. Now, based on newly leaked renders, Sony might be preparing something a little more premium than its current WH-1000XM6.

The upcoming model is reportedly called Sony The ColleXion, and yes, that name sounds more like a fashion collab than a normal tech product. But from the renders, the idea seems clear: take the WH-1000XM6 formula and dress it up with a more expensive-looking finish.

According to the leak, The ColleXion headphones are expected to arrive in black and white. The overall shape still sits very much in Sony’s premium over-ear headphone zone, but there are a few visible differences. The hinge appears to be changed compared with the WH-1000XM6, and the ear cup material may also be different.

The biggest design rumour is that Sony could be moving away from the matte plastic style used on last year’s WH-1000XM6 and going for a fake leather finish instead. If true, that would push the headphones closer to a luxury lifestyle accessory vibe — something you wear on a KLIA flight, in a café, or while pretending not to hear anyone at the office.

There is also a USB-C charging port on the right ear cup, which is expected at this point but still good to see. No drama there.

The more spicy part is the rumoured price. Previous leaks have suggested a US$649 price tag. Converted roughly, that is around RM3,000+ before local taxes, shipping, or retailer markup. In Malaysia, that would put it deep into premium territory — the kind of price where buyers will compare it not just against Sony’s own WH-1000XM6, but also Apple’s AirPods Max-style products and other high-end wireless headphones.

That pricing also makes one thing clear: The ColleXion probably is not replacing the WH-1000XM6. It sounds more like Sony wants a higher-tier alternative for people who already like the WH-1000X sound and noise cancelling, but want something that feels more premium or fashion-forward.

For Malaysian and SEA buyers, the real question will be value. Sony’s WH-1000X models are popular here because they make sense for daily life: LRT rides, noisy cafés, open offices, travel, gaming sessions on mobile or handheld, and long anime binge nights where you don’t want outside noise kacau. But once the price crosses RM3K, the design and build materials need to justify the jump.

If The ColleXion really uses a fake leather finish, comfort and durability will matter a lot in our weather. SEA humidity is no joke, and headphone materials can age badly if they trap heat or peel over time. A more premium look is nice, but for Malaysia, sweat resistance, replaceable pads, and long-term comfort are just as important.

For now, this is still leak territory. We have renders, colour options, design hints, and a rumoured price — but not the full spec sheet. No confirmed launch date, no official Malaysia pricing, and no final word on whether the audio or noise-cancelling hardware is meaningfully different from the WH-1000XM6.

Still, if you were planning to buy premium Sony headphones soon, this is worth watching. The WH-1000XM6 may remain the sensible pick, but The ColleXion could be the flex version for people who want their headphones to look as expensive as they sound.
