Sony has given its flagship WH-1000XM6 headphones a fresh wardrobe update, and this one is definitely aimed at the clean desk, neutral-fit, cafe-work setup crowd.
The new colour is called Sandstone, a sandy beige finish that joins the existing WH-1000XM6 lineup. That makes it the fifth colour option for Sony’s premium over-ear noise-cancelling headphones, sitting alongside Black, Platinum Silver, Midnight Blue, and Sand Pink.
Same XM6, new look
To be clear, this is not a new hardware revision. Sony has not announced any spec changes, feature upgrades, or battery improvements here. This is the WH-1000XM6 you already know, just in a softer neutral colourway.
That still matters, though. The WH-1000X series has long been one of the default recommendations for people who want serious noise cancelling without jumping into ultra-niche audiophile gear. Even about a year after the WH-1000XM6 first launched, it remains one of Sony’s top-tier headphone options.
For Malaysian and SEA users, the appeal is pretty obvious: these are the kind of headphones you buy if you commute, work in noisy cafes, travel frequently, or just want to lock in during ranked grind sessions without hearing the whole house. A new colour does not change the performance, but it does make the headset easier to match with everyday outfits and minimalist setups.
Sandstone is the second new colour this year
Sandstone did not come out of nowhere. A previous leak had already pointed to a sandy beige XM6 colour launching on May 19, and Sony’s official announcement has now confirmed it.
This is also the second colour refresh for the WH-1000XM6 in 2026. Earlier this year, Sony introduced Sand Pink in February alongside the launch of the WF-1000XM6. With Sandstone now added, Sony is clearly trying to keep its flagship audio lineup feeling fresh without needing a full product refresh.
Honestly, that strategy makes sense. A lot of premium tech buyers are not just shopping specs anymore. Colour and aesthetic matter, especially when the product is something you wear on your head in public. Black is safe, silver is classic, blue has personality, pink is bold, and Sandstone feels like the most lifestyle-friendly option of the lot.
Price and availability
Sony says the WH-1000XM6 in Sandstone is available through Sony’s website and Amazon. The retail price stays the same at $459.99 USD / $599.99 CAD.
There is no Malaysia-specific pricing or availability mentioned in the source, so local buyers will need to watch Sony Malaysia, authorised retailers, or major platforms like Shopee and Lazada if this colourway eventually appears here. Based on the US price alone, this is still very much premium headphone territory — the kind of purchase you think through, not an impulse checkout during lunch break.
That said, if you were already considering the XM6 and did not vibe with the existing colours, Sandstone might be the one that finally makes the headset feel less “office gadget” and more daily carry.
Sony is also marking the 10-year anniversary of the 1000X headset line with its 1000X The ColleXion, aimed at buyers who want something even more premium than the standard WH-1000XM6.
For everyone else, Sandstone is simply a cleaner-looking version of one of Sony’s best-known headphones — same flagship positioning, just with more drip.
