Stellar Blade Sequel Drops PlayStation Publishing, Multiplatform Hopes Get Louder

Shift Up is changing the game plan for the next Stellar Blade title, and yes, this is the kind of publisher move that immediately gets platform-war brains spinning.

The Korean developer has confirmed that the sequel to Stellar Blade will not be published by PlayStation. Instead, Shift Up plans to handle publishing itself for the next entry, whether it ends up being officially called Stellar Blade 2 or something else.

That does not automatically mean the sequel is coming to every platform on day one. But it does make the possibility of a wider launch feel a lot more realistic than before.

Why This Matters

The first Stellar Blade arrived in April 2024 as a PlayStation 5 console exclusive, before eventually making its way to PC in June 2025. That release pattern already showed that Shift Up’s action RPG had life beyond the PS5 ecosystem.

Now, with Shift Up taking charge of publishing, the studio may have more room to decide how and where the sequel launches. In its earnings update, Shift Up said this shift would let the company present the identity of the Stellar Blade franchise more directly to players, instead of relying on an external publishing partner.

In plain gamer terms: Shift Up wants tighter control over marketing, platform strategy, and how the IP is sold globally.

SEA Players Should Keep An Eye On This

For Malaysian and SEA players, this is actually pretty relevant. A PS5 exclusive is great if you already own the console, but a lot of players here still split time between PC, PlayStation, and increasingly portable systems. PC gaming is especially strong in the region thanks to gaming laptops, cybercafes, Steam sales, and the very Malaysian habit of waiting for the “worth it or not?” version before buying.

So if the next Stellar Blade launches on PC earlier — or even day one — that would be a big win for SEA players who skipped the PS5 version but jumped in later on Steam.

There is also the bigger question: could Stellar Blade eventually show up on Nintendo hardware, especially Switch 2? Fans have been asking for more ports, but Shift Up has not announced anything concrete yet. What the company did say is that it is actively looking at further platform expansion for the first game, which keeps that conversation alive.

The Sequel Is Still Quiet For Now

Shift Up says development on the next Stellar Blade title is moving along well and is being built to meet the studio’s quality targets. No release window has been announced, so don’t start booking annual leave yet.

The first game earned attention for its slick combat, stylish sci-fi world, and obvious comparisons to games like NieR: Automata and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. It also landed with some divided reactions, with IGN scoring it 7/10 and calling it a strong action game with both impressive highs and clear flaws.

That sounds about right, honestly. Stellar Blade had the polish and vibes to build a fanbase, but the sequel is where Shift Up can really prove whether this IP has long-term legs.

Multiplatform Launch? Not Confirmed, But More Possible

To be clear: Shift Up has not confirmed the sequel for Xbox, PC, Switch, or Switch 2. The only confirmed change is that PlayStation will not be publishing it.

Still, publishing matters. When a developer controls its own release strategy, platform decisions can become more flexible. For a franchise with proven demand on PS5 and PC, it would not be shocking if Shift Up wants a bigger global launch next time.

For now, Malaysian fans should treat this as a strong “watch this space” moment. If Stellar Blade’s next chapter goes broader, SEA players could get more options — and fewer reasons to borrow a friend’s PS5 just to play Eve’s next adventure.
