Tesla Gets Micron Memory At “Reasonable Prices” As AI Hardware Costs Heat Up

Elon Musk slipped in an interesting thank-you during Tesla’s latest earnings call: Micron apparently helped the company secure memory allocation at what he described as “reasonable prices”.

That may sound like a small corporate shoutout, but in the current AI hardware market, memory is not some boring background component. It is one of the hottest parts of the stack. When companies are rushing to build bigger AI clusters, train larger models, and keep GPU farms running, memory supply can quickly become a serious bottleneck.

Tesla’s own compute footprint is not at hyperscaler level. The report points to Tesla’s Cortex 1 and Cortex 2 clusters having around 90MW and 115MW of compute capacity respectively. That is still massive by normal company standards, but not in the same league as the biggest AI infrastructure players.

The bigger question is whether Micron’s favourable memory allocation could also be helping Musk’s other AI-related ventures, including SpaceXAI.
