Pokemon Champions Mega Stones Guide: How To Get Them Without Wasting VP

Mega Evolution is back in the spotlight with Pokemon Champions, and yes, Mega Stones are already a big deal if you care about winning matches instead of just vibes.

For Malaysian and SEA players jumping into Champions on Switch, this is one of those systems you should understand early. Mega Stones are not just collectible rocks for your bag. They decide which Pokemon can Mega Evolve, when your team can shift momentum, and how much pressure you can put on an opponent before they even know your full game plan.

What Mega Stones do in Pokemon Champions

Mega Stones are held items tied to specific Pokemon. When the right Pokemon holds the right stone, it can temporarily Mega Evolve during battle.

That transformation can change more than just the look. Depending on the Pokemon, Mega Evolution can affect stats, typing, and abilities. In a competitive-style battle game like Pokemon Champions, that means one item choice can completely change how a matchup plays out.

Mega Stones first appeared in Pokemon X and Y on 3DS, with more added in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. The mechanic also appeared in Pokemon Sun and Moon, then later returned through Pokemon Legends Z-A on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. Legends Z-A and its Mega Dimension DLC also introduced more Mega Stones, setting the stage for Champions to lean hard into the mechanic.

How to get Mega Stones

The most direct route is the Frontier Shop. From the main menu, go to Shop, then Frontier Shop, and scroll to the Mega Stones section. Each Mega Stone costs 2,000 VP.

VP is earned by battling and clearing missions, so this is where SEA players need to be smart. If you are grinding after work, between classes, or during weekend sessions, 2,000 VP is not something you want to throw away on a stone you could have unlocked elsewhere.

Before buying anything, check the other reward paths first.

Battle Pass rewards matter

Pokemon Champions uses a seasonal Battle Pass that runs for roughly a month. There are two tracks: a free Battle Pass and a paid Premium Battle Pass.

By playing battles and completing missions, you progress through the pass and unlock rewards. Some Mega Stones are available on the free track, while others are tied to the Premium track.

For Malaysian players, this is especially worth checking before spending. If you are considering the paid track, confirm what stones are included and whether they fit your team. No point paying or grinding hard for a Mega Stone that does not support the Pokemon you actually use.

Do the Mega Evolution tutorial

There is also a very easy method that players might miss: the Mega Evolution battle tutorial.

From the main screen, choose Train, then Battle Tutorials, then Mega Evolution. Finish the quick training match and the game will reward you with Mega Stones.

Honestly, this should be your first stop. It teaches the mechanic and gives rewards, so skipping it is just leaving value on the table.

Pokemon Home transfer bonuses

The Pokemon Company also has a promotion linked to Pokemon Home. If you transfer Chesnaught, Delphox, Greninja, or Eternal Floette into Pokemon Home and let them visit Pokemon Champions, you will receive their matching Mega Stone.

This is a nice bonus for long-time Pokemon fans who already have these Pokemon ready. If you have been carrying favourites across games, this is one more reason to connect your Home setup.

How to use Mega Stones in battle

Once you have the correct Mega Stone, give it to the matching Pokemon as a held item. Select the Pokemon in your party or box, choose the option to give it an item, then pick the correct Mega Stone. The item description will tell you which Pokemon it belongs to.

In battle, choose Fight, then press R before selecting your move when you want to Mega Evolve. On the next turn, the Pokemon will Mega Evolve at the start, then attack according to the normal turn order based on Speed.

You can equip multiple Pokemon on your team with Mega Stones, which is actually a nice mind-game tactic. Your opponent will know several Pokemon could Mega Evolve, but they will not know which one you plan to commit to. The catch: you can only Mega Evolve one Pokemon per match.

Also, not every Pokemon can use Mega Stones. Only Pokemon with Mega Evolutions can benefit, and each one needs its own specific stone, like Venusaur using Venusaurite.

Bottom line: do not just buy randomly. Check tutorials, Battle Pass rewards, promotions, then spend your VP only on the stones your team actually needs.
