Rumour: More Zelda, Metroid And Smash Bros Could Be Coming For Switch 2 In 2027-2028

Nintendo fans, jangan terus pre-order in your head yet — but this one is definitely worth watching.

A fresh rumour is making the rounds around Nintendo’s next few years, with interviewer and YouTuber Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly claiming that several major Nintendo-linked franchises have something lined up across 2027 and 2028. The names being thrown around are big ones: The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, and Super Smash Bros.

For Switch 2 owners in Malaysia and SEA, this matters because these are the kind of franchises that usually decide whether a console feels “must-own” or just “wait for discount” — although, let’s be real, Nintendo discounts memang susah sikit.

What was actually claimed?

Reilly posted on X that some of his favourite franchises have things coming “soon or in a year or two.” In the same post, he referenced GTA 6 in November, “another Metroid game on the near horizon,” Smash Bros. in the “next year or two,” and another Zelda game alongside the previously announced Zelda movie in 2027.

That sounds spicy, but the important part is the wording. Reilly later clarified that he did not say these are all brand-new games. According to him, the projects could be new releases, spin-offs, remasters, or even Nintendo Switch Online additions. He also said he was being vague on purpose to protect developers.

So yes, this could be exciting. But no, it does not automatically mean we are getting Super Smash Bros. 6, a full new Zelda, and a completely new Metroid all in one shot. Relax dulu.

Zelda is the safest bet here

Zelda already has one confirmed major project: the Legend of Zelda movie, which is planned for 2027. The rumour suggests there may also be another Zelda game arriving around the same period.

The easy guess would be the long-rumoured Ocarina of Time remake, but nothing has been officially announced. It could also be a remaster, a spin-off, or something tied to Switch Online. Nintendo has many ways to keep Zelda alive without dropping another massive open-world game so soon after Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

For Malaysian fans, a Zelda release around the movie would make sense commercially. Movie hype usually brings casual fans back in, and if Nintendo times a game near the film, expect local shops and online sellers to push bundles hard.

Metroid fans may finally eat again

The Metroid side of the rumour is more mysterious. Reilly only mentioned “another Metroid game” being on the near horizon. The obvious speculation is a Super Metroid remake, which has been rumoured before, but again, this is not confirmed.

Metroid is not as mainstream here as Mario or Zelda, but among hardcore Switch players, it has a strong following. A remake or remaster would actually be a smart move for SEA players who missed the older entries and want to catch up without digging through retro hardware or emulator drama.

Smash Bros. is the big question mark

The most interesting part is definitely Smash Bros. Nintendo has not officially announced a new Smash game or a Switch 2 upgrade for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

A full new Smash would be massive, but also difficult. Ultimate already feels like a “how do you even top this?” game, with a ridiculous roster and years of DLC history behind it. A more realistic first step could be a Switch 2 Edition, performance update, re-release, or maybe extra content.

For SEA, Smash is also one of those games that lives beyond solo play. Dorm rooms, gaming cafes, anime events, small community tournaments — it works because it is chaotic, recognisable, and easy to jump into. Even a polished Switch 2 version would probably get attention here.

Bottom line

This is still a rumour, not an announcement. The exciting part is that Nintendo may be preparing a strong 2027-2028 pipeline to keep Switch 2 momentum going. The sensible take: expect familiar IP, but don’t assume everything is a full new sequel.

If even half of this lines up — Zelda movie plus game, more Metroid, and some kind of Smash Bros. return — Nintendo fans in Malaysia are going to have a very expensive couple of years.
