Forza Horizon 6 Targets 4K 30FPS on Xbox Series X, 60FPS Needs Upscaling
Forza Horizon 6 is getting closer to launch, and Microsoft together with Playground Games have finally shared clearer details on how the game will run on Xbox consoles. For Malaysian and SEA players planning to jump in through Game Pass or preorder, the big takeaway is simple: if you want sharper native 4K visuals on Xbox Series X, expect 30FPS. If you want 60FPS, the game will lean on dynamic upscaling.
On Xbox Series X, Quality Mode targets 4K native resolution at 30FPS, with higher visual fidelity. That is the mode for players who care more about image quality, scenery, lighting and all the small Horizon details that usually make the series such a screenshot machine.
Performance Mode, meanwhile, runs at 60FPS on Series X, but the 4K output uses dynamic upscaling instead of native 4K. For a racing game, that trade-off will probably make sense for many players. Horizon is all about speed, cornering, traffic dodging and reaction time, so smoother frame pacing can feel more important than pixel-count bragging rights.
Xbox Series S players are also getting both modes. Performance Mode targets 60FPS at 1080p with dynamic scaling, while Quality Mode targets 30FPS at 1440p with dynamic scaling to help maintain performance. That is good news for SEA players who picked up the Series S as the more affordable Game Pass box — you are not being locked out of 60FPS, even if the resolution ceiling is lower.
The accessibility package sounds pretty solid too. Forza Horizon 6 will include features like AutoDrive, Proximity Radar, High Contrast mode, colourblind filters, plus ASL and BSL interpreters for cut-scenes. There is also an offline option to adjust game speed, which could help younger players or anyone who needs more time to react. Combined with difficulty settings, this should make the game more flexible without forcing everyone into the same experience.
Preloading has also opened on PC and Xbox. If you have preordered or are playing through Game Pass, you can start the download from your library, the Microsoft Store, or the Xbox mobile app. That last one is useful if you are buying a physical copy but still want the console ready before launch day. Considering how large modern racing games can get, Malaysian players with slower home internet should probably preload early instead of waiting until everyone starts hammering the servers.
Microsoft is also giving returning Forza players some bonus cars. After finishing the introductory mission, eligible players will find special unlocks in their garage depending on which previous Forza game they played. The rewards include the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray for Forza Motorsport, 2021 Mercedes-AMG ONE for Forza Horizon 5, 2016 Aston Martin Vulcan for Forza Horizon 4, 2016 Lamborghini Centenario LP 770-4 for Forza Horizon 3, 2014 Lamborghini Huracán LP-610-4 for Forza Horizon 2, and 2013 Dodge SRT Viper GTS for the original Forza Horizon.
For the local crowd, this is basically the usual console decision: if you play on a big 4K TV and want the prettiest version, Quality Mode is there. If you are racing competitively with friends or just want the game to feel more responsive, 60FPS Performance Mode is the obvious pick. Either way, Horizon 6 looks set to arrive with decent options instead of forcing one mode on everyone.
