Google Health Might Finally Support Apple Watch Soon
Google’s fitness ecosystem may finally be opening the door to Apple Watch users — and honestly, this could be a pretty big deal for Malaysians who live in mixed-device setups.
According to Android Authority, a Google representative has suggested that Google Health, the app formerly known as the Fitbit app, may eventually support the Apple Watch. The hint came from Google representative Andy Abramson, who told journalists that Google Health and its Health Coach feature will support more devices, with the Apple Watch specifically being used as an example.
To be clear, Google has not officially confirmed that Apple Watch support is launching immediately. This is still a hint, not a full announcement. But companies usually do not randomly name-drop a major rival’s device unless something is being worked on or at least seriously considered. So yeah, Apple Watch users who still miss Fitbit-style tracking may have reason to pay attention.
Why this matters for Malaysian users
In Malaysia and across SEA, a lot of people don’t stay locked into one ecosystem. You might use an iPhone, own an Apple Watch, keep a Google account for everything, and still have older Fitbit data sitting somewhere from a previous device. That kind of mixed setup is super common here.
Right now, one of the annoying parts of owning an Apple Watch is that it does not support the Fitbit app — now rebranded as Google Health. If Google Health eventually works with Apple Watch, it could make things much cleaner for users who want their health data, coaching, and fitness tracking to sit inside Google’s platform without needing to buy a Fitbit device.
This could also matter for people who subscribe to fitness services or use wearable data to track sleep, workouts, and daily activity. If Google’s Health Coach feature expands beyond Fitbit hardware, Apple Watch users may get another layer of insights without switching watches. For SEA users who already spent serious money on an Apple Watch, that is a much better outcome than being told to buy another wearable just to use Google’s health features.
Fitbit is becoming Google Health
The bigger story here is Google’s ongoing reshuffle of the Fitbit brand. The Fitbit app has now been renamed Google Health, while Fitbit Premium is being renamed Google Health Premium. Google also had other wearable news to share, including the newly launched Fitbit Air.
That rebrand says a lot. Fitbit is no longer being treated as just a standalone fitness tracker brand. Google seems to be turning it into a wider health platform — one that could potentially work across more devices, services, and ecosystems.
For Apple Watch users, the key line is simple: Google Health will apparently tell users when their device is supported. Since the Apple Watch was directly mentioned as an example, it sounds like Google wants the app to become less hardware-restricted over time.
Don’t celebrate too early
Still, don’t uninstall anything or start planning your fitness setup just yet. There is no confirmed launch date, no official Apple Watch rollout announcement, and no details on what features would actually work if support arrives.
The best-case scenario is that Apple Watch users get proper access to Google Health and Health Coach. The more limited scenario is that only some features work, or support arrives later than expected.
Either way, this is one to watch. If Google really brings Google Health to Apple Watch, it would be a nice win for users in Malaysia and SEA who don’t want to be punished for mixing Apple hardware with Google services.
