Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 and Wide Fold Leak Through One UI 9
Samsung’s next foldable lineup may have just shown up earlier than planned, and this one is interesting for anyone watching the premium Android space in Malaysia.
According to GSMArena, preview images of two upcoming Samsung foldables — the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Wide Fold — were found inside a One UI 9 build. The images were reportedly spotted by Android Authority, and they give us an early look at the design direction Samsung may be taking for its 2026 foldables.
The more familiar device here is the Galaxy Z Fold8, codenamed Q8. Based on the leaked preview, it does not seem like Samsung is going for a massive visual overhaul. The phone still appears to follow the classic Fold formula: a tall, slim cover display on the outside and a triple-camera setup on the rear.
That is not shocking. Samsung’s Fold series has always moved in careful steps rather than wild redesigns every year. For Malaysian buyers, that usually means the big questions will not just be “does it look new?”, but whether Samsung has improved durability, crease visibility, battery life, camera performance and local pricing enough to justify what will almost certainly be a premium-tier RM price tag.
The more unusual model is the Galaxy Wide Fold, which is reportedly codenamed H8. As the name suggests, this device seems to be built around a wider format than the regular Fold. The preview lines up with earlier leaked renders, showing a shorter but more horizontally spacious cover screen with a punch-hole selfie camera. That cutout is rumoured to be smaller than on previous Samsung foldables.
On the back, the Galaxy Wide Fold appears to carry two cameras placed in a vertical camera island. That already hints Samsung may be positioning it differently from the main Z Fold line, which usually pushes harder on flagship-style specs.
The leaked dimensions are also worth noting. A recent report claims the Galaxy Wide Fold measures 123.9 x 164.4 x 4.3mm when opened, and 123.9 x 82.2 x 9.8mm when folded. The outer display is speculated to use a 4.7:3 aspect ratio, while the inner screen is expected to be 4:3.
That 4:3 inner format is the part that could matter most. It is a more tablet-like shape, and for SEA users who live inside WhatsApp, YouTube, Google Docs, manga apps, web browsers and mobile games, a wider canvas can feel more natural than a tall narrow foldable. If Samsung gets the software scaling right, this could be a better device for multitasking, reading, editing documents and maybe even cloud gaming.
For gaming, though, aspect ratio is a double-edged sword. Some titles adapt nicely to big square-ish screens, while others throw in awkward black bars or UI spacing issues. Malaysian mobile gamers playing titles like MLBB, PUBG Mobile, Honkai: Star Rail or Genshin Impact will want to see real hands-on testing before calling this a gaming win.
Both the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Wide Fold are expected to launch in July, alongside the Galaxy Z Flip8. If that timeline holds, Malaysia should be watching closely — Samsung usually treats this region seriously for flagship launches, and foldables remain one of the few phone categories where the upgrades still feel physically different.
For now, the leak suggests Samsung is preparing two foldable paths: a safer continuation with the Z Fold8, and a wider, more experimental option with the Galaxy Wide Fold. Honestly, that is not a bad move. The regular Fold can stay for users who already like the current formula, while the Wide Fold could tempt people who want something closer to a pocketable mini tablet.
