Apple Watch Ultra 4 Rumoured to Get Its First Big Redesign Since 2022

Apple’s biggest, toughest smartwatch might finally be getting a proper glow-up.

A new rumour claims the Apple Watch Ultra 4 will arrive with a complete redesign, which would be a pretty major move for Apple. Since the first Apple Watch Ultra launched in 2022, the line has kept the same general rugged look: chunky titanium body, flat display, orange Action Button, and that “I go hiking every weekend” energy.

If this report is accurate, Ultra 4 could be the first model in the family to really change that formula.

The catch? We still do not know what the redesign actually looks like. No leaked renders, no confirmed screen size, no case shape details. The report only points to a major design shift, so for now, jangan terlalu hype dulu. This is still rumour territory.

Better sensors may be the bigger deal

Design aside, the same source also claims the Apple Watch Ultra 4 will bring a significant upgrade to its sensing functions.

That part is interesting because the Ultra line is not just a fashion smartwatch. It is Apple’s top-tier wearable for fitness tracking, outdoor use, diving, running, cycling, and health monitoring. Better sensing could mean new sensors, but it could also mean improved versions of the existing sensor stack with better accuracy, faster readings, or more efficient battery use.

For Malaysian and SEA users, this matters more than just “new Apple thing expensive again”. A lot of people here use Apple Watch for gym tracking, running clubs, sleep tracking, hiking, and general health monitoring. If Apple can improve sensor reliability in hot, humid conditions — especially for workouts where sweat and heat can mess with readings — that would be a very practical upgrade.

Still, the report does not confirm exactly which health or fitness features are changing, so we will have to wait for proper details.

Supply chain timing points to September

The rumour also mentions Taiwan-Asia Semiconductor, said to be Apple’s exclusive supplier for sensor components in the Apple Watch Ultra family. According to the report, new products could trigger large-volume orders as early as July, with stronger performance expected during the usual second-half peak season.

That timing makes September look like the obvious launch window. Apple typically reveals major iPhone and Watch hardware around that period, and the report suggests the Watch Ultra 4 could appear alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and a rumoured iPhone Ultra.

The source also mentions Apple preparing other “Ultra” products, including AirPods Ultra and even a MacBook Ultra, though those are separate launches and not necessarily coming at the same event.

Should Malaysia buyers wait?

If you are eyeing an Apple Watch Ultra right now, this rumour is a good reason to slow down unless you really need one immediately. A redesigned Ultra model could affect both new-buy interest and resale value of older Ultra watches.

No Malaysian pricing has been revealed yet, and Apple’s Ultra watches are usually positioned at the premium end. So the smart move for most buyers is simple: wait for the official announcement, compare the actual upgrades, then decide whether Ultra 4 is worth the likely high RM price.

For now, the headline is clear: Apple may finally be ready to refresh the Watch Ultra design after several years of playing it safe. If the sensor upgrade is real too, this could be more than just a cosmetic update.
