GamesRadar Picks 10 Switch 2 RPGs Worth Playing In 2026

Nintendo players makan good in 2026, especially if RPGs are your comfort zone. GamesRadar has put together its latest list of 10 RPGs to play on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and the interesting bit for Malaysia and SEA fans is how broad the lineup has become: classic JRPGs, tactical school drama, open-world sci-fi, Pokemon catching, and even Cyberpunk 2077 on a handheld.

The key point: every game on the list works on Switch 2, either as a proper Switch 2 release, a Switch 2 edition, or through backwards compatibility. That matters if you are still deciding whether to upgrade from the original Switch. In Malaysia, where many players stretch one console across years, this kind of cross-gen support makes the Switch 2 library feel less kosong at launch.

The RPGs highlighted

GamesRadar’s top pick is Octopath Traveler 0, set for December 4, 2025 on Switch and Switch 2. Unlike earlier Octopath games, this prequel focuses on a custom protagonist chasing revenge in Osterra, with recruitable characters, turn-based combat, and town-building elements. For busy players, the article frames it as an approachable RPG that is easy to jump into.

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster also gets a strong shout. Released June 5, 2025 for Switch 2, it follows four heroes trying to restore elemental crystals. The big appeal is still its Brave points battle system, where you can stack actions and plan burst turns instead of just trading basic attacks.

Then comes Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, also listed for June 5, 2025 on Switch 2. That is probably the most eyebrow-raising pick, because Cyberpunk was once the poster child for rough console ports. GamesRadar says the Switch 2 version delivers an impressive handheld experience, letting players roam Night City as V with Johnny Silverhand stuck in their head. For SEA players who prefer gaming in bed, on commute, or while travelling, this one is a big proof point for what Switch 2 can handle.

Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, dated February 5, 2026 for Switch and Switch 2, represents the traditional JRPG side. It follows a fisherman’s son who leaves home, uncovers world-shaking secrets, and deals with time-travel consequences that affect the present. Classic Dragon Quest energy, but polished for modern play.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade lands January 22, 2026 on Switch 2. Cloud’s Midgar story is positioned as a good entry point for players scared of the massive Final Fantasy back catalogue. If the Switch 2 version really holds up visually and in combat, this could be huge for Malaysian players who missed it on PlayStation or PC.

Still-relevant Switch classics

The list also keeps several older Switch games in the conversation. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild remains a must-play, with its Switch 2 upgrade called out as worthwhile. Pokemon Legends Arceus is included for its fresh take on catching and exploring in Hisui, even if its performance is rough compared to newer Pokemon upgrades.

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, released September 19, 2025 on Switch and Switch 2, is highlighted as a strong remake with charm, character writing, and a mix of real-time and turn-based combat. Fire Emblem: Three Houses remains the strategy RPG pick, thanks to its three-route structure, tactical battles, and social-sim elements. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition rounds things out as a massive sci-fi RPG about surviving on planet Mira, with the Switch 2 upgrade improving smoothness even if visuals are not perfect.

Why Malaysia and SEA players should care

For our region, handheld RPGs just make sense. Long sessions at home, quick grinding between classes, hotel gaming during trips, or portable play during balik kampung season — Switch has always fit that lifestyle. The Switch 2 angle is important because many of these games either run better there or are built with the new hardware in mind.

If you already own a Switch, the smart move is to check whether the game is backwards compatible before double-dipping. If you are planning to buy Switch 2, this list shows the console is not just surviving on Mario and Zelda nostalgia. RPG fans, especially JRPG kaki, already have a pretty stacked roadmap.
