Sony WH-1000X The ColleXion Leak Points To A Pricier Premium Headphone Line

Sony’s next big headphone reveal may have lost a bit of surprise factor. Ahead of its expected launch, a major leak has shown off what appears to be official product imagery and key specs for the Sony WH-1000X The ColleXion — and this one looks like it is aiming above the current WH-1000XM6, not replacing it directly.

For Malaysian and SEA buyers who already treat Sony’s 1000X line as the default “safe pick” for noise-cancelling headphones, this is worth watching. The leaked pricing suggests Sony may be pushing into a more premium lane, which means the usual question becomes even sharper: are the upgrades enough to justify the extra cash?

A more premium-looking Sony flagship

Based on the leaked images, the WH-1000X The ColleXion keeps the familiar Sony silhouette but adds more luxe touches. The hinge area appears to use a brushed metal finish, and that same material seems to continue onto the outer section of the headband.

The inside of the headband is shown with a soft leather-like material, while the headband itself looks wider and thicker than the WH-1000XM6. One earcup also appears to carry three physical buttons, one more than the XM6.

Colour options shown in the leak are simple: black and white. The headphones also seem to come with a new carry case featuring a built-in handle. The case material looks similar to the fabric-style cases Sony has used before, so it still feels like part of the 1000X family.

One notable design shift: these may not fold like the XM6. The leaked case images suggest Sony is going back to a swivel-style design similar to the XM5 generation. For travellers, that matters. If you often throw headphones into a backpack before a KL-to-Singapore flight or a weekend trip, foldability versus a flatter swivel case can make a real difference.

Audio and ANC upgrades, maybe

The leak claims the WH-1000X The ColleXion will use “bespoke drivers” tuned with mastering engineers from Battery Studios, Sterling Sound, and Coast Mastering. There is no driver size listed yet, so for now this sounds promising but still needs real-world testing.

On the noise-cancelling side, the headphones reportedly pack 12 microphones in total, split evenly between both earcups. They are said to support adaptive ANC and beamforming for clearer voice pickup. That should matter for people who use one headphone for everything: Discord calls, Teams meetings, Valorant comms, long bus rides, and late-night YouTube.

The leak also mentions Sony’s QN3 Noise Canceling Processor, the same chip found in the WH-1000XM6. On top of that, the WH-1000X The ColleXion may include a new V3 integrated processor. If true, that could mean better sound processing, stronger ANC, or both — but until reviews land, consider this a “wait and see” feature.

Battery life is the weird trade-off

Here’s the part that may make some buyers pause. The leaked battery figures are 24 hours with ANC on and up to 32 hours with ANC off. That is lower than the WH-1000XM6, which is rated for 30 hours with ANC and 40 hours without ANC.

For everyday use, 24 hours is still plenty. But if Sony is charging more, buyers will expect fewer compromises, not obvious spec drops.

Expected price is properly premium

The leaked launch price is $649 / €629 / £549. That puts it $200, €180, or £150 above the WH-1000XM6 at launch. A rough direct conversion from the US price lands around the RM3,000 range before local taxes, distribution, or Malaysia-specific pricing.

That is serious money for headphones, especially when many Malaysians will compare it against Bose, Sennheiser, Apple, and even Sony’s own XM6. If the WH-1000X The ColleXion really is a higher-tier model, Sony needs to make the sound, ANC, comfort, and build feel meaningfully better — not just more expensive.

For now, the leak makes one thing clear: Sony may be expanding the 1000X line into a more premium space. Whether that is genius or just mahal for the sake of mahal depends on the official reveal and, more importantly, how these perform outside the press images.
